The Guangzhou International Auto Show 2024 opened on November 15. It featured a record 1,171 vehicles, including 512 new energy vehicles (NEVs). Spanning 220,000 square meters, the exhibition also saw 78 global debuts.
BYD highlighted its expansive NEV portfolio at the event, displaying new models across multiple sub-brands. Among these were the Xia MPV, offering adjustable third-row seating; the Yangwang U7, available in both EV and PHEV configurations; and the Denza Z9, equipped with advanced connectivity systems. BYD’s October sales exceeded 500,000 units for the first time, marking a significant growth in NEV adoption.
BAIC showcased its “3X3” Magnecore Electric Drive Super Solution and models like the BJ30 and BJ60 Thunder, drawing off-road enthusiasts with its themed booth. Vice President Peng Gang said the solution enhances off-road performance by integrating electric drive technology. BAIC plans to expand its electric off-road lineup to cater to diverse users, reflecting domestic brands’ push toward premiumization, improved quality, and value-focused compact vehicles.
Other Chinese manufacturers focused on integrating innovative technologies. Baojun showcased the Yep EV, which features a four-wheel independent drive system that enables unique movements, such as lateral driving—the updated Yep Plus 2025 model incorporated driver-assistance features for urban navigation.
GAC Honda debuted its new EV sub-brand, “YeP,” with the production-ready YeP7, featuring independent suspension and chassis improvements.
Dongfeng Nissan unveiled the N7 electric sedan, scheduled for a 2025 launch. The vehicle includes advanced sensing technology and a high-performance processor to enhance driving comfort and functionality.
The event also highlighted advancements in intelligent systems and lightweight materials. Jiyue, a joint venture between Baidu and Geely, displayed its Robo X concept car, which utilizes carbon fiber construction and AI-based interfaces for enhanced interaction.
The auto show is expected to boost consumer interest and sales during year-end. It highlighted critical developments from the past year while introducing technologies likely to influence the industry in 2025.
