On October 30, the Geely Cowboy off-road SUV rolled off the assembly line in China. Designed based on the Geely Icon, the Geely Cowboy has enhanced its appearance with off-road kits. Its official launch is expected to be later this year and may cost less than 100,000 yuan (14,000 USD). For reference, the current Geely Icon on the market has a price range of 96,900 – 116,900 yuan (13,600 – 16,400 USD).

In September, the Geely Icon sold only 465 units, a year-on-year decrease of 72.6% and a month-on-month decrease of 41.1%, accounting for 0.54% of Geely’s monthly sales and ranking 210th in SUV sales in China. From January to September 2024, the cumulative sales of the Geely Icon were 6,888 units.

For the exterior, the Geely Cowboy exhibits the characteristics of a hardcore SUV. Its front face is rugged and layered. The tail adds an external polygonal container and the roof has an oversized equipment rack as well as spotlights, further emphasizing its hard-core off-road style. The roof cargo area is 1.3 m2 and the maximum load is 50 kg.

Consumers will be able to choose from four exterior paints, namely, white, green, gray, and brown.

The Geely Cowboy measures 4369(4442)/1860/1770 mm in length, width, and height, respectively, which is larger than the Geely Icon (4350/1815/1620 mm in length, width, and height), while the wheelbase of 2640 mm remains unchanged. The side features wide wheel eyebrows, rugged side skirts, conventional door handles, red brake calipers, and a floating roof effect. Off-road AT tires are optional.

Power comes from a 1.5TD engine with a maximum power of 133 kW (178 hp) and a peak torque of 290 Nm, mated to a 7DCT.

The seats are made of leather, denim, and suede fabrics. Both the driver and co-pilot seats are embossed with the Born Free logo. Other configurations including ambient lights, a 6-way electrically adjustable driver seat, and 42 storage spaces throughout the interior are not absent.
