On September 24, GAC Trumpchi debuted its 1 Concept. It is a near-production-ready sedan and the first of three models developed in cooperation with Huawei. The subsequent two will be an SUV and an MPV.

The concept follows on from artwork of the sedan, which was first exposed in May of this year. At the 2024 Beijing Auto Show in April, GAC Trumpchi announced a joint innovation plan with Huawei to launch models equipped with Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 3.0 intelligent driving system and Huawei’s latest generation HarmonyOS cockpit system.

According to previously released information, the production version of the GAC Trumpchi 1 Concept should launch in the first quarter of 2025. The concept has a wheelbase of 3000 mm, a length of 5128 mm and rides on 21-inch rims.

It uses GAC’s third-generation design language, “Hidden Edge in Run,” and has a theme of time. At the front, there is an enclosed grille, and the logo is illuminated. The logo is surrounded by LED running lights that even go around to the frameless doors. At the rear, there are also through tail lights.

Inside the 1 Concept, there is a Harmony OS-operated cockpit system. Furthermore, the car will use Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 3.0 system. As unveiled, it appears the concept has a roof-mounted Lidar unit, suggesting that the car will use the highest-capability version of the Qiankun system. It is an NCA system that supports parking space-to-parking-space driving.

The level of cooperation between the two companies seems to be somewhere between the Huawei Inside model and the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) ecosystem. With the latter Huawei is much more deeply involved in the car’s development only stopping short of actually producing the car.

The 1 Concept also showcased the new “GAC Super Range Extension” technology. Using AI, it aims to solve the problems of frequent start and stop of the engine in EREVs, along with high fuel consumption and insufficient feed power. The result is that NVH is optimized by 30%, fuel consumption is reduced by 15%, pure electric mileage is increased by 12%, and the incidence of low SoC power shortage is close to 0%. The car claims to use a three-motor four-wheel drive distributed system. It will use a 56 kWh battery pack optimized for EREV use and features 5C charging and an 800V platform. Claimed all-electric range is over 300 km.
