Changan’s new energy brand, Deepal Auto, officially announced pre-orders for the new Deepal S05 beginning on September 20th. A deposit of 1000 yuan (140 USD) can be placed today and will be bumped up to 3000 yuan (425 USD) closer to delivery.
The Deepal S05 is positioned as the brand’s entry-level model in pure electric and range-extender variants. Changan has high ambitions for Deepal and aims for the brand to sell over 30,000 monthly units eventually. The entry-level S05 will be crucial for Deepal to achieve the lofty sales targets.
Deepal S05 details
The Deepal S05 adopts a new design language separate from other Deepal models, with a more rounded overall shape. The sealed front grille pairs with narrow headlights on both sides. The front bumper features high and low beam lights along triangular decorative panels. The cooling intake is installed near the bottom of the bumper.
On the sides, the car’s body line runs from the front to the rear, creating a design where the front and rear fenders widen the body. The overall shape presents a wide-body design, enhancing its sporty appearance. Additionally, the car features three-piece low-drag rims and hidden door handles, reducing the drag coefficient.
In the rear, the S05 has a roof spoiler integrated with a high-positioned brake light. The taillights adopt a through-line design, with a two-layer light contrasting the car color, giving a three-dimensional feel.
Deepal S05 interior
Inside, the overall design stays in line with that of other Deepal-branded vehicles. The S05 is equipped with a large floating center console and hidden air vents. The model, notably, lacks a traditional instrument panel, using a large HUD instead.
As for size, the car measures 4620 mm in length, 1900 mm in width, and 1600 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2880mm, giving it an impressive 0.62 wheelbase-to-length ratio, indicating spacious interior dimensions.
In terms of power, the pure electric Deepal S05 adopts a single 175 kW motor powered by a 56.12 kWh LFP battery pack, equating to 510 km of range. The EREV version has a 160 kW motor with a 1.5-liter range extender with a maximum power of 72 kW.
Deepal S05 is expected to begin deliveries later this year. It is the first entry-level SUV in the brand’s line. Deepal has delivered 120,710 units from January to August, according to Changan’s financial statements. Although Deepal is still far from its stated 30,000 sales a month goal, the S05 is expected to provide a major boost to Deepal’s sales volume.
