MG opens Cyberster reservations in China. Deliveries scheduled for the year-end

The MG Cyberster two-door open-roof electric roadster is now available to order in China. Those interested can book one of three trim levels for 10,000 yuan (1,370 USD). The deliveries of the MG Cyberster are scheduled for the year-end. Those who booked it in advance will enjoy an exclusive package and priority car pickup rights. As for the international deliveries, they will start in 2024.

MG is a former British brand that is currently owned by the Chinese automotive giant SAIC Group. It will be manufactured in the SAIC Ningde plant that also assembles MG4 electric hatchback.

More on MG Cyberster exterior

The exterior design of the MG Cyberster was inspired by the one and only MGB roadster that was manufactured from 1962 until 1980. Cyberster reimagined its styling, increasing its drag coefficient. It also became pretty large, with dimensions of 4535/1913/1329 mm and a wheelbase of 2690 mm. It has R20 wheels with 245/40 front and 275/35 rear tires.

The front end of the roadster has a slick bonnet line and oval-shaped headlights. Other features of its styling are sporty bumpers, scissor doors and folding roof. The soft top of the Cyberster comprise three layers of fabric. It can be folded and unfolded in 8 seconds. And you can also operate it while driving within a speed of 50 km/h. In the back, the Cyberster has a single taillight unit and LED elements that look like parts of the Union Jack.

The doors of the MG Cyberster have flush door handles. Besides, the doors open electronically. Driver can adjust the angle of opening to the exact degree in 30-76 degree range. Thanks to ultrasonic radars mounted on doors, they can detect obstacles.

Inside, the MG Cyberster has a two-seat layout. Behind the D-shaped steering wheel sits a curved cluster made of three screens. Another screen is located in the center tunnel. Interestingly, the MG Cyberster has shift paddles. Since it is an EV, they are used to switching driving modes. And the steering wheel has a red button called ‘Super Sport’ to quickly turn on this driving mode. The MG Cyberster seats are wrapped in Alcantara leather.

MG Cyberster performance

According to MG, the suspension system of the Cyberster was adjusted by F1 drivers. It has a double-wishbone suspension in the front axle and a multi-link independent suspension in the rear one. The entry-level MG Cyberster has a single electric motor on the rear axle for 314 hp. The AWD version has a 204-hp front motor and a 340-hp rear motor. The total power output of the MG Cyberster reaches 544 hp, good for zero-to-hundred acceleration in 3.2 seconds. It also has Brembo brakes with red calipers.

MG Cyberster reservations and price range

MG opened Cyberster reservations in China. They are available for 10,000 yuan (1,370 USD). Clients who booked the Cyberster will enjoy a 20,000 yuan (2,740 USD) exclusive package and priority car pickup rights after the launch event.

The price range of the Cyberster wasn’t officially disclosed. As CarNewsChina reported in July, the price of MG Cyberster leaked, revealing that the base model will start at 239,800 yuan (33,000 USD) in China. According to British media, Cyberster will start at 55,000 GBP (69,300 USD) in the UK.
