On September 13, GAC Aion’s brand-new pure electric sedan was revealed by the Chinese MIIT, which may be named Aion RT.

Referencing the product plan previously announced by Aion, which includes releasing a new sedan codenamed AY3 in August, then announcing another new model codenamed AY2 at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November. It is unclear whether the Aion RT is the AY3 at this time.

For the exterior, the Aion RT is round and looks standard for a Chinese new energy vehicle with a closed front face, slender headlights, and hidden door handles; not a lot of surprise here. The charging port is located on the right front fender.

At the rear, the internal light source for the taillight adopts a slanted orientation. The “AION” letter logo is located in the middle.

In addition to the “RT” tail label, the declaration revealed two more tail labels: “T” and “VT”. However, the official name still needs to be announced by GAC. The Aion RT measures 4865/1875/1520 mm, and the wheelbase is 2775 mm, which is positioned above the GAC Aion S (4863/1890/1515 mm, and the wheelbase is 2760 mm). Four curb weights were declared: 1670 kg, 1700 kg, 1750 kg, and 1780 kg.

Furthermore, the Aion RT runs on 215/55 R17 and 235/45 R18 tires; and offers various rim styles to choose from.

Other exterior kits include six front radars, six rear lidars, no rear radar, front roof radar, no front camera, no rear camera, an optional sunroof, privacy glass, and different color door handles as well as charging port cover.

Power comes from a permanent magnet synchronous motor (model TZ180XYXOF51), providing two maximum power options of 150 kW (201 hp) and 165 kW (221 hp), paired with a lithium iron phosphate battery pack from CATL. The top speed is 163 km/h. The battery pack capacity and associated range information are not yet revealed at this time.

In August, GAC Aion sold 35,355 vehicles globally, down 32% year-on-year from 52,057 vehicles in the same period last year. Additionally, Aion plans to launch four new models in the second half of 2024, according to previous plans.

  1. This maybe is to replace the Aion S plus (ES)? Hope this can be exported globally to take over the aging A plus (ES) which has been facelifted many times.
