Nvidia Drive Thor with 2,000 TOPS to be implemented by Li Auto

At CES 2024 (Consumer Electronics Show), Nvidia announced that Li Auto plans to implement Nvidia Drive Thor, revealed in September 2022, in their upcoming model.

Nvidia also disclosed partnerships with GWM (Great Wall Motors), Zeekr, and Xiaomi, as these manufacturers adopt the Nvidia Drive Orin, revealed in 2019, platform for their intelligent autonomous driving systems. Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, BYD, Lucid, NIO, Xpeng and others are all developing software-defined fleets on various versions of Nvidia Drive. This demonstrates that Nvidia is an industrial leader in automotive SoC.

Danny Shapiro, Vice President of Nvidia Automotive, highlighted the industry shift toward centralized computing for high automation and autonomous driving, naming the Nvidia Drive Orin as the preferred AI car computer. The Drive Thor, Nvidia’s next-gen automotive computer, integrates various intelligent features into a single AI platform, supporting functions such as autonomous driving, parking, and driver monitoring. The new Nvidia Drive Thor performance is 2000 TOPS, outperforming the existing Nvidia Drive Orin, performing at 400 TOPS.

Li Auto currently uses two Drive Orin processors for its AD Max assisted driving system, with the new AD Max 3.0 upgrade transitioning to an AI-centric algorithm architecture. GWM announced the development of Coffee Intelligence, an autonomous driving system based on the Drive Orin platform, offering intelligent navigation and assisted driving across various scenarios. Xiaomi introduced its first electric car, the SU7, built on a dual Drive Orin configuration, providing highway-assisted driving functionality.

Li Auto delivered 376,030 vehicles in 2023, marking a 182.2% year-on-year increase. As of December 31, 2023, Li Auto’s cumulative deliveries exceeded 600,000 vehicles, making it one of leaders among the emerging new energy automakers in China. Its model line currently comprises three vehicles: Li Auto L7, Li Auto L8 and Li Auto L9. In March, it will launch its first electric vehicle, which is the Mega MPV. This year, Li Auto plans to enter the Middle East. Li Auto will be one of the first automakers to adopt the all new Nvidia Drive Thor expected to be launch in 2025.
