BYD has launched the updated Song Pro DM-i, offering significant improvements in design and technology. The compact plug-in hybrid SUV is priced between 112,800 to 142,800 yuan (15,980 to 20,230 USD) in four trims. This new model integrates BYD’s latest DM 5.0 plug-in hybrid system, which improves fuel efficiency and performance. The Song Pro DM-i will be available through the Dynasty Network, While the Sealion 05 DM-i, a sister model to the Song Pro DM-i, will be marketed through BYD’s Ocean Network.
The Song Pro DM-i adopts BYD’s dragon face design, featuring slimmer, smoked-out headlights and a trapezoidal honeycomb grille. The front bumper includes sharp, fang-like details, giving the SUV a more aggressive look. The side profile remains similar to the previous model, but the blacked-out window frames and newly designed five-spoke alloy wheels offer a fresh touch. At the rear, the full-width taillight now displays the “BYD” logo, replacing the older “Build Your Dreams” lettering. Subtle tweaks to the rear bumper contribute to a cleaner, more streamlined design.
The Song Pro DM-i measures 4735 mm in length, 1860 mm in width, and 1710 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2712 mm. These dimensions make it practical for urban driving while maintaining a spacious interior.
Inside, the Song Pro DM-i features a new amber-brown color scheme. The cabin combines traditional Chinese design concepts with modern styling, emphasizing simplicity and function. The control center is a 15.6-inch floating touchscreen equipped with BYD’s DiLink system. The dashboard also includes a digital instrument panel for a modern driving experience.
The center console retains physical buttons for easy access to essential functions, and a retractable crystal gear shifter adds a refined touch. Additional features include power-adjustable seats (8-way for the driver and 4-way for the passenger) and a 1.2-square-meter panoramic sunroof, enhancing comfort and visibility.
The Song Pro DM-i is equipped with a range of features designed to improve convenience and safety. It supports 50W wireless phone charging, an intelligent voice interaction system, and a PM2.5 air quality management system. The cabin also offers 31-color ambient lighting, an NFC-enabled smartphone key, and BYD’s smart cloud services.
The SUV includes Level 2 DiPilot smart driving assistance on the safety front. Key features include Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), and Blind Spot Detection (BSD).
The Song Pro DM-i uses BYD’s fifth-generation DM plug-in hybrid system. It combines a 1.5-liter engine with a maximum output of 74 kW (99 hp) and an electric motor producing 120 kW (160 hp). Two battery options are available: a 12.96 kWh pack and an 18.31 kWh pack, enabling a pure electric range of 75 km and 115 km, respectively. The vehicle also supports 3.3 kW external power output for added functionality. Fuel consumption ranges from 4.85 to 4.9 liters per 100 km in depleted battery mode, with a combined range of up to 1,400 km.
Despite being nearly identical in specifications to the Sealion 05 DM-i, the tuning of the sister cars will be different. From our experience of test-driving the cars from BYD’s Ocean Network and Dynasty Network, one will be tuned towards comfort while the other model will be more agile to drive.
