Baojun is a young brand under the SGMW joint venture formed by SAIC, Wuling, and General Motors. Nowadays, this brand manufactures cars primarily for big cities. However, it slowly moves upmarket. And their latest product is a compact SUV designed for families. It is available for purchase in PHEV and BEV variants.

More about the Baojun Yunhai

The Baojun Yunhai adopts the brand’s new design language. Its front end adopts triangular-shaped headlights and a trapeze-shaped air intake. Back to the headlamps, their integrated DRLs somehow look quite similar to Porsche cars. The Yunhai SUV has a sloped bonnet and conventional door handles. Its roofline slightly curves after a B-pillar. The rear end of the car boasts a sizeable roof spoiler and a taillight bar.

Dimensions of the Baojun Yunhai are 4590/1880/1608 mm with a wheelbase of 2750 mm. For clarity, it is slightly longer than the European version of the Hyundai Tucson. The Yunhai rides on R18 wheels.  It is worth mentioning that the PHEV variant of this SUV has a more aggressive front bumper with some additional air intakes.

Inside, the Baojun Yunhai has a suspended main monitor with a diameter of 15.6 inches. A gear shifter and an 8.8-inch LCD instrument cluster sit behind the two-spoke D-shaped steering wheel. The center tunnel has two wireless charging pads and a pair of cup holders.

Powertrain and prices

The PHEV variant of the Baojun Yunhai is a cheaper option. It has a 1.5-liter NA petrol-powered engine for 78 kW (105) hp paired with an electric motor for 150 kW (201 hp). There are two available battery options for the Yunhai PHEV: 9.5 kWh for 60 km of EV range, and 20.5 kWh for 140 km of EV range.

The electric Baojun Yunhai is a more expensive modification. It has the same 150 kW e-motor on board. Battery options are 56.7 kWh and 69.2 Wh. The all-electric range is 500 – 600 km (CLTC).

The Baojun Yunhai is available in four trim levels. They mainly differ by the powertrain system:

  • Baojun Yunhai PHEV 60 km – 109,800 yuan (15,450 USD)
  • Baojun Yunhai PHEV 140 km – 123,800 yuan (17,400 USD)
  • Baojun Yunhai BEV 500 km – 123,800 yuan (17,400 USD)
  • Baojun Yunhai BEV 600 km – 133,800 yuan (18,800 USD)

SAIC sells Baojun models under the MG brand overseas. For an example, the Baojun Cloud (Yunduo) is known overseas as MG Windsor EV. So, there is a chance the Baojun Yunhai will make a global premiere as a part of the ex-British brand.
