The Wuling Zhiguang EV electric kei car from the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture was revealed by the Chinese regulator during the homologation process. It fits four people with a length of 3685 mm and has a single e-motor for 30 kW (40 hp). It is a bigger sibling of the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV.
Wuling is the third most popular domestic brand in China, after BYD and Geely. Its sales volume in China from January to September 2024 reached 582,656 units. Wuling sells affordable electric cars such as Wuling Hongguang Mini EV. Soon, this automaker will launch a new funky product, an electric kei car. It was previously spotted in China during road tests. The SGMW brand and communication GM underlined this car has vast potential in the Chinese market.

The Wuling Zhiguang EV looks like a generic kei car from Japan. It has a high beltline, a flat roofline, rear sliding doors, and a short bonnet. However, it isn’t a kei car. In Japan, only vehicles with a length under 3.4 meters and a width under 1.48 meters are considered kei cars. But the Zhuiguang EV is bigger. It measures 3685/1530/1750 mm with a wheelbase of 2600 mm. So, this EV only pretends to be a true kei car.
Thanks to small bumpers, the Wuling Zhuiguang EV has small front and rear overhangs of 579 mm and 506 mm, respectively. Its approach and departure angles are 24 and 38 degrees. It rides on small 165/65 R13 wheels. And this EV is light. The curb weight is 892 kg. So, it weighs 193 kg less than the Smart Fortwo EQ. The gross weight of the Zhiguang EV reaches 1220 kg. This car has four seats inside.

The Zhuiguang EV has an LFP battery made by Gotion or RSPK. Its capacity has yet to be revealed. The Zhiguang EV has a single TZ155XZ230 electric motor in the rear axle for 30 kW (40 hp). The same e-motor powers the new Wuling Hongguang Mini EV. Zhuiguang’s zero-to-hundred acceleration time is yes. It is also the top speed of this small car.
There is no information about the interior or prices of the Wuling Zhiguang EV. Previously, SGMW officials mentioned the Zhiguang EV has vast potential in China as it can be used both for private and commercial needs. It will likely be a bit more expensive than the Hongguang Mini EV. Its current price range is 32,800 – 99,900 yuan (4,600 – 14,000 USD).
